Recent Visitors to the CEC Nursery

TOM McIntosh, MP for Eastern Victoria

During June, CEC was delighted to receive a visit from Tom McIntosh, MP for Eastern Victoria, the Upper House electorate which includes Pakenham.   He was generous with his time and seemed impressed by what he saw in our Nursery.

We also showed him other aspects of Deep Creek Reserve and it was very apparent that the Playground and the Nursery are currently the “shining lights”.  The main building is virtually unused and will be until Council’s consultants report back on options to replace the previous golf operation.  Added to this is the much reduced usage by school groups.  CEC’s principal message to our MP was that the facilities are grossly under utilised and therefore opportunity is being squandered.  It is apparent that everyone who visits is impressed and that the millions of dollars spent thus far have created something special.

Facilities at Deep Creek were designed and built to cater for education.  Reductions in funding which have made school excursions so difficult is one problem area which CEC highlighted.  The other which we asked Tom McIntosh to consider was TAFE which currently has zero presence in the Shire.  This situation robs Cardinia of funding opportunities.  While he obviously could not give any firm undertakings, he did commit to consider the requests.  We are grateful for his visit and were impressed by the sincerity of his wish to improve the environment.
