Trees for Weeds
In May we partnered with Cardinia Shire for a Trees for Weeds swap event.
Locals were asked to bring small clippings of weeds on their properties in to have identified, be given removal advice and a indigenous plant to take home.
Around 25 people attended bringing in a range of annual weeds like, Thistles, Capeweed, Wild Turnip
The most significant weeds that were brought in were:
Bridal Creeper
Botanic Name:
Asparagus asparagoides
Common Names: Bridal Creeper, Bridal Veil Creeper, Smilax, Florist’s Smilax, Smilax Asparagus
Origin: Africa
Flower Colour: White to pale green.
A Weed of National Significance, Bridal creeper grows during Autumn & Winter and is spread by Birds, Animals and Rhizome pieces

Arum Lillies

Rubus fruticosus
Common Names: Blackberry, European Blackberry
Origin: Europe
Flower Colour: White or Pink
A Weed of National Significance, Blackberries currently infest 9million hectares of land in Australia.
Handweeding can be done all year Spraying or Cut & Paint methods should be done during growing period Sep-Apr
